- Open SSH: although it now runs on very many platforms, ssh originated from the BSD world (Open BSD).
Securing
- Mac OS X: probably the least secure of the BSDs, but that can be
fixed ( nsa.gov ).
- OpenBSD and FreeBSD are quite secure out of the box, if you use these you may have to learn about the issues as you go along anyway
